Rand Gamble: A Lifetime Dedicated to Storytelling and Production

1990-1994: Discovering the Visual Arts

Rand Gamble’s path into production began in 1990 while growing up in California’s Santa Ynez Valley. During his high school years, Rand immersed himself in photography and digital imaging, mastering Adobe Photoshop long before it became an industry standard. Working at a high-end photography studio, he learned professional photography, photo retouching, and client management while contributing to work for notable clients including Shania Twain, Cheryl Ladd, and Bo Derek.

1994-2002: Learning from Masters

While attending college, Rand studied acting, directing for the camera, and computer science. Driven by a desire to understand every aspect of visual storytelling, he dedicated himself to learning both audio and video production.

His career took an unexpected turn when he landed a position as an assistant sound engineer for renowned music producer David Kershenbaum. Kershenbaum’s impressive career included work with artists such as Tracy Chapman and Bryan Adams, along with 75 international gold and platinum records, multiple Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award nomination. Rand benefited tremendously from working under Kershenbaum’s mentorship and learning professional audio engineering from one of the industry’s most accomplished producers.

At the same time, Rand was expanding his creative toolkit, teaching himself the art of video editing. Shortly after Apple’s Final Cut Pro was released, a local client contacted him seeking instruction. To Rand’s surprise, that client was Richard Harris, the Academy Award-winning editor of Titanic

When Rand arrived, confused as to why one of Hollywood’s most accomplished editors needed help, Harris explained:

“I don’t need you to teach me how to edit. I need you to teach me how to use Final Cut Pro.”

The arrangement that followed proved invaluable. Rand taught Harris the software, and in return, Harris shared decades of elite editing knowledge and storytelling principles. What began as a software lesson became a rare mentorship opportunity, with a master editor passing on his craft to a passionate young filmmaker. It was an education few film schools could ever provide.

2002-2010: Refining the Craft

In 2002, Rand and his wife, Kimberle, moved to Los Angeles, where he joined ParFore Productions as an audio engineer.

Working primarily on behind-the-scenes content, movie junkets, premieres, commercials, documentaries, and promotional content, Rand collaborated with some of the most recognizable names in entertainment. The role placed him at the center of Hollywood production, allowing him to work alongside top talent and build relationships with influential industry professionals.

His education continued on set. Through countless productions, he observed and learned from acclaimed filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and James Burrows. Watching these creative leaders direct, problem-solve, and execute their vision provided lessons no classroom could replicate.

For Rand, the years spent on professional sets became a real-world masterclass in filmmaking.

2010-2014: From Audio Specialist to Production Leader

After establishing himself as one of the industry’s most sought-after sound engineers, Rand’s career naturally expanded into cinematography and production.

Having spent years alongside some of the best camera operators in the business, he carefully studied every aspect of their craft. He learned how to frame shots, shape light, anticipate key moments, and operate effectively in fast-paced production environments.

Armed with years of cross-disciplinary experience, Rand launched his own production company, Digital Omni. The name reflected his belief that great storytelling requires more than expertise in a single discipline. Having built his career across photography, audio engineering, cinematography, editing, directing, and storytelling, he embraced an all-encompassing approach to production. Digital Omni became a reflection of both his diverse skillset and his commitment to delivering complete creative solutions.

Rand chose to focus primarily on marketing, promotional, and branded content rather than scripted productions, allowing him to continue pursuing creative excellence while maintaining a healthy balance with family life.

One notable highlight during this period came when director Teressa Wingert hired Rand as a second unit shooter and creative assistant for Carrie Underwood’s hit single “Good Girl.” The music video went on to win Music Video of the Year in 2012, adding another notable credit to his growing body of work.

Rand also became a camera operator for Access Hollywood, a role that further validated his reputation and expertise. Within the entertainment industry, these assignments are typically entrusted only to highly experienced and trusted professionals.

By this point in his career, Rand’s reputation had earned him opportunities to work with a prestigious roster of clients and brands. His production experience included projects for Access Hollywood, NBC, ABC, CBS, HBO, and FOX, as well as major studios including Warner Bros., Disney, Sony, and Paramount. His expertise was also sought by global brands such as Activision, Red Bull, Chevrolet, and Revlon. Additionally, his portfolio encompassed work for CMT, HARPO, Biography Channel, VH1, Fab Life, Sky Sports UK, the NHL, InStyle, Bravo, and Ellen DeGeneres, further reflecting the breadth of his experience across entertainment, sports, lifestyle, and branded content.

2014-Present: Bringing Hollywood Storytelling to Corporate Communications

While the entertainment industry offered tremendous opportunities, Rand also witnessed its instability. The long-term effects of the 2008 financial crisis eventually reached the freelance production community. By 2014, many of the mentors and industry veterans who had helped shape his career were struggling to find consistent work.

Seeing the changing landscape, Rand made a strategic decision.

One of his longtime clients, Farmers Insurance, had been utilizing his production expertise for years. Recognizing the value he could bring internally, he approached the company with a proposal: hire him full-time and gain the capabilities of a seasoned Hollywood production professional while significantly reducing external production costs.

The answer came quickly.

Farmers Insurance hired Rand, and he has since served as a Senior Lead Video Producer, Shooter, and Editor, bringing decades of real-world production experience to corporate communications.

Today, Rand continues to apply the lessons learned from world-class photographers, award-winning editors, Grammy-winning producers, and Hollywood directors to create compelling visual stories that inform, inspire, and engage audiences. His career represents a rare combination of photography, audio engineering, cinematography, editing, directing, and storytelling expertise developed through hands-on experience with some of the most respected professionals in the entertainment industry.
